Shhhh..... here's the hand-made doll that Ginny just made for her daughter Lilly's fifth birthday later this month.
Isn't she talented??
(This blog is about impatience, and I'm too impatient to create something like this. But Ginny's not. Good thing. There are some things that grandmothers are just really ideal for!)

What a great doll! I've made a couple of dolls but nothing as elaborate. Once I made an Amish doll with no face for a friend.
No face? Is that an Amish thing, or did you just decide to be totally noncommittal?
My friend (and I also) had heard that the Amish do not put faces on their dolls for the same reason they don't have their photos taken: no graven images. So I made a cloth doll with a little black dress and apron and a bonnet, but no face, at least no features on the face. Dolls made for tourists may have faces, and possibly are not made by the Amish. I think the dolls they make for their children do not have faces.
